SUKONTA MOOGRATA – It’s Big, It’s Hot, It’s Loud And It’s an Amazing Experience!

May 8, 2017 By The Ambassador

Sukonta Moograta

There are many moogratas – pronounced mooo-gra-tar – (sometimes called Korean BBQ) but only one Sukonta Moograta!

It is a big tin shed and it houses one of the best experiences you will have in Thailand. The whole place is pretty incredible. Most nights you will dine with 600-800 of your closest Thai friends. However, on Friday or Saturday, you may be lucky to get a seat, when 1500 people cram in to eat and enjoy the interesting entertainment.

The price is 229 baht but well worth it for the whole experience, but make sure you go there hungry and ready to eat. It is not glamorous, it is not pretty, but it is functional and fun. You will be amazed at what you find. From 5:30pm onwards. It’s so big and off the road, just a little, but you just have to do it once!

It located here, 18.80146499, 98.9719677 – but you have to enter here – 18.80003294, 98.97066951 . There entrance is near the Sirimangalajarn Road traffic lights.

IT’S BIG, IT’S HOT, IT’S LOUD AND IT’S AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!

Sukonta Moograta Meats

The large range of meats and seafood that you can cook yourself is just huge.

Are you hungry? If so, I have the most amazing restaurant experience for you. You need to head a little bit out of the normal Chiang Mai area, but that is where the best places are found and this is the best of the best, that Chiang Mai has to offer. It’s Auf der Au , a German family style restaurant!

Click on the Facebook logo to view the video.

I will mostly let the pictures tell the story, but there will need to be some superlatives along the way to help you understand the complete goodness of the foods made fresh on site for you to feast on. The basics are always available throughout the week, but the buffet is ever changing and there is always something new to try. It’s all good, so you will not be disappointed.

Opening Hours

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 5:30pm – 9pm

Sunday 11:30am – 2pm and 5:30pm – 9pm.

CLOSED ON TUESDAY!

Price

289 baht (except Monday Schnitzel night where it’s ~239 baht)

The Restaurant

Auf der Au, what is it? It’s a big family house and you are not a customer, you are a nephew, uncle or distant cousin coming for lunch or dinner. You are welcome, everyone is welcome! Auf der Au makes you feel like Sunday lunch at home with all the family. Then there is the food.

Main Courses

We start with the meat and main courses, you have to try everything! The tastes and textures are all different and, if you happen to find one thing, you don’t love, you will love the other 20 options. Watch out for the Dijon chicken and the schnitzels and crispy fish! All the rissoles and sausages are hand made and no fillers. The mashed potato and fried bacon potato onion mix are spectacular!

Salads and Cold Meats

There are options for vegetarians, but seriously it’s all about the meat at Auf der Au. There are all sorts of mixed salads and cold cuts, not my favorite but still great, I have tried them all, but the mains and desserts are my favorites and take my attention and tummy space.

Breads

Auf der Au is also a bakery and has amazing breads and products for sale outside the buffet hours or order as you need it.

I recommend the pizza style rolls and the sundried tomato filo pastries were also special.
